Students sawdust firing--July 07

These are the results of a course of work for sawdust firing. Pots were coiled, thrown or pinched. Some had coloured slip or oxides on, and one had a low firing glaze which reduced and looked like a raku glaze. Most were burnished

They were  fired in tins with sawdust, newspaper, pine needles,  fir cones and sea weed. Iron oxide and copper carbonate together with salt, were put near the work. Clear shoe polish was used after washing and drying the pieces.
